Happymaking Pianos Back Downtown for September

Web posted on September 06, 2017

September 2017, Downtown Guelph The ever popular #HappyMaking project will once again provide spontaneous entertainment on the streets of Downtown Guelph. Eight pianos will pop up around the core, luring passersby into playing a tune and creating a happy vibe.

Locations include Grey Rock, Clothing Co., Planet Bean, Breezy Corners, River Run Centre, P.I.N (previously the Volunteer Centre of Guelph- Wellington), and the main branch of the Guelph Public Library. Guelph Transit will host two pianos, one at Platform #12 and the other in the transit shelter near the fountain in St. George's Square.

Stemming from an idea by community member Ian Findlay, a piano was placed on the sidewalk outside his business in 2013 and encouraged passersby not only to play the instrument, but also to decorate it with markers.

The response was so positive that the project, in partnership with the Downtown Guelph Business Association, has continued in multiple locations every year since. Ian says "I'm really pleased to be involved with the #HappyMaking Street Pianos again this year and I'm looking forward to hearing all the great stories and music in Downtown Guelph."
