Impaired driver

On October 4th at approximately 7:35pm, police approached a male in a Speedvale Avenue parking lot who had just driven away from the scene of a domestic disturbance a few minutes earlier in a Black Jeep Patriot.

Interaction with the male led officers to believe that his ability to operate that motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested. The male was non-compliant and aggressive throughout his dealings with police.

The 36 year old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, assualt police, causing a disturbance, breach of probation and breach of peace bond. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.

Canadian Forces training reminder

Yesterday the Guelph Police Service received a few calls about the increased activity taking place at the former Guelph Correctional Centre on York Road. This is a reminder that the Canadian Armed Forces are training on the site and will be continuing that training until October 5th .

Residents should be aware that there will be higher noise levels and low-level helicopters flying for the duration of these training activities.

To ensure safety, it is advised that the public stay out of the immediate vicinity while Canadian Armed Forces personnel conduct their training.

Security staff assaulted

In the early morning hours of October 3rd , a male was behaving badly at the VIA station on Carden Street and was issued a trespass notice by police with the clear direction that he was not allowed on the property.

Then later in the evening the male returned to the property and assaulted a security officer who approached him in an attempt to ask him to leave. The officer did not receive any injuries that required medical attention.

Police arrived and arrested the 23 year old Guelph man for assault, breach of probation and trespassing. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court later today.

Assault arrest

On the morning of October 3rd , there was an altercation between two female neighbours in the hallway of a central Guelph apartment building. During that altercation, one of the tenants was assaulted and when another tenant attempted to separate the two females, he too was assaulted. There were no injuries reported that required medical attention.

Police attended a short while later and arrested 43 year old Osvalda Furtado. She is charged with two counts of assault, uttering threats, assault police and mischief under $5000.00. She was later released to appear in Guelph court on November 14, 2017.

Break and enter arrest

On September 23, 2017 at 1:51pm, Guelph Police went to a Grange Street residence for a break and enter in progress. A resident was home when the culprit(s) entered the unlocked rear patio sliding door.

A female was observed by the homeowner on the deck dropping the purse that she had just stolen. The female ran, last seen west bound towards Regent Street. A MacBook Pro computer and I phone was stolen from just inside the home.

As a result of that investigation, Shirley-Anne Hack, a 21 year old Guelph female was identified as the suspect and on the evening of October 3rd she was arrested by police. She was charged with break and enter and was later released to appear before the court on November 24, 2017.

Pedestrian struck - Request for witnesses

On Monday October 2, 2017 at approximately 8:45am a minivan stuck a pedestrian crossing College Avenue West at Janefield Avenue, in front of College Heights CVI.

The pedestrian suffered minor injuries, was treated a short time later at Guelph General Hospital and released.

The minivan left the area. Police are looking to speak with the driver of the minivan about this incident, or any witnesses to this collision.

Drug trafficking arrest

In September 2017, the Guelph Police Drug Enforcement Unit began a fentanyl and heroin trafficking investigation into a resident of Guelph on Waterloo Avenue. As a result of information gathered during that investigation, a search warrant was obtained and executed on the evening of October 2nd.

During the search warrant, a quantity of fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine was seized as well as a large quantity of cash.

Julia MORRIS, a 38 year old Guelph woman was arrested and is charged a number of offences including possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin and fentanyl. She was released and will appear in Guelph court on November 17, 2017.

Wanted man located

At approximately 2:50 pm on October 2nd, police on patrol in the area of Plymouth Court observed a man they knew to be wanted for outstanding warrants for failing to comply with terms of his probation and an undertaking to police. When the man saw police approaching, he got on his bicycle and quickly fled.

Police caught up with the man who struggled with police while he was taken into custody. In addition to his original breach of conditions charges, the man was further charged with resisting arrest and breach of recognizance.

The 39 year old Guelph man was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.

Theft from vehicle

Early in the afternoon of October 2nd, a man parked his vehicle in the parking lot on the Woolwich Street of Riverside Park and two black carbon compound bows and a number of hunting arrows taken from inside the vehicle.
