Update - Water Main Break At Gordon And Water Strret

Web posted on October 11, 2017

Update, October 2017 - The water main break has been repaired and the road has reopened to traffic. A temporary patch has been done on the road to restore two-way traffic to this busy route. Final asphalt repairs will be completed as soon as possible.

Guelph, Ont., October 10, 2017A water leak has occurred in the area of Gordon and Water Streets around 8 a.m. today. There are no health risks as a result of the break.

The intersection of Gordon and Water Street is closed to all vehicular traffic until further notice. The detour route is College Avenue, Edinburgh Road and Wellington Street. Residential roads are for local access only, and drivers are reminded to follow the official detour route. The sidewalk and bike lane on the east side of Gordon Street are closed, cyclists and pedestrians are being asked to use the west side of the street.

Guelph Transit routes that use Gordon Street will be detoured around the area. Visit for information about bus stop changes and route detours.

It is expected that repairs will be completed today.

"City crews are on site repairing the leak and the water system is running normally," says Wayne Galliher, division manager of Water Services for the City of Guelph. "The City's built in system redundancy ensures that day-to-day water needs are still met when water mains break or leak, including water needed for emergency responses like fire suppression."

The City will provide an update on and social media should anything change, or once repairs are complete.
