Stolen vehicles sighted

On November 26th a white 2016 Dodge Durango was stolen from an address on Maude Lane in Guelph and was then seen driving in the area central area of town at approximately 4pm on November 28th. The Durango has some front end damage and a green ratchet strap around the passenger side exterior mirror. Police checked the area and the vehicle could not be located.

Just before 7am on November 28th, there was a white two door 2013 Hyundai Genesis stolen when it was left running in a west end driveway. That vehicle was reported driving aggressively in the Ward area just after midnight today and could not be located when police arrived.

Single car collision

At approximately 4:30am on November 28th, a van with three passengers struck a utility pole near the intersection of Speedvale Avenue and Victoria Road. The collision knocked down the utility pole and affected traffic for a number of hours before Hydro staff could repair the damage.

The 51 year old man who was driving the van received non-life threatening injuries and was charged with careless driving.

Luring investigation

On November 24, 2017 members of the Guelph Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit and the Sexual Assault Unit entered into an investigation involving a 37 year old Guelph man who was luring a female under the age of 16 years old.

On November 25, 2017 Dennis Higgins was arrested at his residence located in the North end of the City. He was charged with the following offences.

  • Luring
  • Make arrangement to commit a sexual offence against a person under 16 years of age
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching
  • Make Sexually explicit material available to a person under 16 years of age;
  • Communicate with anyone for the purpose of obtaining sexual services under 18 years of age

A Search Warrant was executed at his residence where a variety of computer systems and digital devices were seized.

Dennis Higgins was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in bail court today on November 28, 2017.

Roommate charged

On the morning of November 27th, there was an altercation between roommates at a Guelph Street residence where one of the tenants armed himself with a knife and threatened the other roommates. Police arrived and spoke with the man who came out of the residence unarmed and was arrested. No one was injured in this incident.

The 28 year old Guelph man is charged with weapons dangerous to the public peace, three counts of utter threats and mischief. He was in custody and will appear in bail court.
