Collision Criminal Charge

On January 5, 2018 at approximately 6pm, a Nissan was in the parking lot of a variety store in the east end of the city. This Nissan exited the parking lot and collided with another vehicle that was traveling northbound on Victoria Road. From this initial collision, one of the vehicles lost control and hit a third vehicle.

Investigation into this revealed that the male in the Nissan did not have permission to drive it. As a result of this incident, a 27 year old Guelph man was charged with take motor vehicle without consent under the Criminal Code and several other Provincial offences. He was given a February 23, 2018 court date.

Impaired Driving by Drug Arrest

On January 5, 2018 at approximately 11pm, Guelph police officers were waived down by citizens, who directed them towards a suspicious vehicle. Police discovered a male occupant that appeared to be sleeping behind the wheel of the car.

Investigation lead to the male being arrested. William Shivrattan, a 22 year from Pickering, was arrested and charged with care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired by a drug and possession of a controlled substance. He was given a January 19, 2018 court date.

Drug Arrest

On January 6, 2018, staff at a west end Guelph Hotel located a quantity of crystal meth and cocaine that had been left behind by the people that had checked out of the room. A female returned to collect the forgotten items in the room, at which time she was arrested. The estimated value of the drugs is $42,000.

A 33-year-old London female has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Theft Arrest

On January 5, 2018 security at a department store in the north end of the city initiated an investigation into a male behaving suspiciously. On January 6, 2018 this same suspicious male came back to the store and was observed by security.

The investigation of security at the department store lead to Guelph police being called to assist. Police attended and arrested a male.

Taylor McKinstry, a 24 year old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with theft under $5000, possession of stolen property, possession of identity documents and breaching his probation order. He was given a February 9, 2018 court date.

Vehicle into House

On January 6, 2018 at approximately 2pm, Guelph police were called to Woolwich Street, near downtown, where there was a report of a vehicle into a house. As a result of the subsequent investigation, the driver of the vehicle was transported to the Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries.

A total damage estimate is not available. The driver, a 71 year old Guelph woman, was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Wanted Man Arrested

On January 7, 2018 Guelph police attended to a Speedvale Ave. E. apartment complex for a call. Unrelated to the call, police officers observed a male at a residence that was known to have a warrant for his arrest.

A 26 year old Guelph male was arrested for the warrant, which was relevant to the charges of fail to re-attend court and breaching his recognizance. Further investigation lead to further charges of possession of stolen property, breach of probation order and two counts of breaching an Order of Recognizance. The male was held for a bail hearing.

Shoplifters Return Arrested

On January 7, 2017 Guelph police were alerted by staff of a retail store located in the west end of the cit, that a male had returned, who was suspected of stealing items on the previous day. Police attended and initiated an investigation into the matter. As a result of this investigation, two people were arrested.

A 59 year old Guelph man was charged with two counts of theft under $5000, possession of stolen property and two counts of breaching his probation order.

A 55 year old Guelph man was charged with possession of stolen property and breaching his probation order.

Both males were held for a bail hearing.

Move Over Law

The Guelph Police Service would like to remind motorists of the move over law. As soon as a driver sees an emergency vehicle with lights flashing, that driver should immediately slow down and begin planning to pass the emergency vehicle in a safe manner.

On Friday, January 05, 2018 at approximately 9:50am, a Guelph police officer in Traffic Division was investigating a collision that occurred near the intersection of Speedvale Ave. E. and Metcalfe St. The cruiser was parked in the center lane of Speedvale Ave., with full emergency lights activated, blocking the lane where a collision had occurred.

During the investigation, the cruiser was struck from behind by another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that struck the cruiser, an 86 year old Guelph man, has been charged with careless driving. There are no injuries as a result of this collision. Total damage is estimated at $2000.

Break and Enter Investigations

On January 5, 2018, the Guelph Police went to residence on Mccann Street to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered an unlocked garage and an unlocked vehicle. Cash was taken.

On January 6, 2018, the Guelph Police went to a residence located on Mary Street to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime in December and stole a bicycle.
