Web posted on December 30, 2019

(CROMARTY, ON) - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Perth County detachment were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program on December 29, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. on Perth Road 180 in the hamlet of Cromarty. A motor vehicle approached the RIDE program at a high rate of speed and failed to slow down even though the officer was wearing a highly reflective coat and had the full emergency lights activated on their fully marked cruiser. The officer had to take evasive action to prevent being struck.

With the assistance of members of the Huron County OPP, the vehicle was located and stopped.

Eric SERY, 54-years-old, of London was arrested and charged with the following;

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Stunt driving by driving too close to a pedestrian

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Stratford on January 20, 2020 to answer the charges.

The accused had their driver's licence seized and a 7 day Driver's Licence Suspension was imposed. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded as per statute.
