TRAFFIC COMPLAINT TURNS INTO IMPAIRED CHARGES

OPP applauding member of public for assistance in removing Impaired Driver

 (ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON) - On January 9, 2020 at 10:42 p.m. Grey Bruce and South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a traffic complaint in town of Chesley, Arran-Elderslie. The vehicle, a (black) car was observed driving carelessly, on sidewalks and almost caused a head on collision.

OPP officers attended and stopped the vehicle on 1st Avenue South behind an apartment building and arrested the driver for impaired driving. The driver provided two breath samples at the OPP detachment. The result of the test were greater than double the legal limit of 80 milligrams (mg) of alcohol.  

OPP have charged 26 year old, Alexander NIGANOBE from Arran-Elderslie with Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, section 320.14(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CC) and Operation while impaired with blood alcohol concentration 80 mg or greater, section 320.14(1)(b) CC.

The accused has been released on an Undertaking and will appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on February 26, 2020.

IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER LEAVING SCENE OF COLLISION

(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) - On February 8, 2020, at approximately 10:50 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to fail to remain motor vehicle collision on Egremont Street south in the Township of Wellington North. It was reported that a silver sport utility vehicle (SUV) collided with a parked car and then fled the scene.

Police located the driver shortly after the vehicle was observed parked at a nearby residence. Officers spoke with the driver and determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The accused was placed under arrest and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Aileen Ruth CAPELL, 36-years-old of Wellington North Township has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation - 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code and Fail to Remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on March 10, 2020 to speak to the charges.

FENTANYL SEIZED FOLLOWING FAIL TO REMAIN ARREST

(TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON, ON) - On February 9, 2020, at approximately 1:35 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a fail to remain collision in Fergus involving a pick-up truck that backed into a parked vehicle and fled the scene.

Officers located the vehicle matching the description on Wellington Road 18 and observed the damage which was consistent with the witness's statement. The driver was arrested and also found to be in possession of a Ziploc baggy which contained a purple substance - believed to be fentanyl.

Matthew Lee PYKE, 33-years-old of Centre Wellington Township has been charged with Fail to Remain After Accident contrary to the Criminal Code and Possession of Fentanyl contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on March 13, 2020 to answer to the charges.

IMPAIRED OPERATOR INVOLVED IN COLLISION

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) - On February 6, 2020, at approximately 6:30 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer came upon a single vehicle collision on Wellington Road 124 east of the City of Guelph. It appeared that a driver had left the roadway and struck a fence.

Officers speaking with the driver formed the opinion that they were impaired by alcohol. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. The driver was arrested and underwent further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Leighton Cobourne OSBOURNE, 37-years-old of Guelph has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood). A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on March 13, 2020.
