GUELPH, ON, October 19, 2012 – On Wednesday afternoon, a passenger was injured while travelling on a Guelph Transit community bus. The community bus is a fully accessible mobility van serving two routes — Community Bus North and Community Bus South — for passengers who may or may not use personal mobility devices such as walkers or wheelchairs.
While travelling in the city's north end, the bus was driven over an uneven patch of pavement. As a result, the vehicle rocked and the passenger fell to the floor.
Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene and transported the passenger to Guelph General Hospital.
"Our thoughts are with the transit passenger who is still in the hospital and we wish them a speedy recovery," said Michael Anders, General Manager of Guelph Transit.
Guelph Transit remains committed to the safety of all passengers and operators.
"We are investigating this matter thoroughly to ensure all operating procedures were followed," added Anders.
