9th Annual Giant Book Sale Huge Success!

Web posted on November 09, 2015

Thank you, Guelph!

The Friends of the Guelph Public Library's ninth annual Used Book Sale has truly been a success.

With gross revenue of $119,000 (and expenses of $9,000), this year's profit will be nearly $111,000, approximately $20,000 more than last year. The best sale we have ever had!

Thanks to our donors, there were 107,000 items to offer and 72 per cent of them were sold. Aftersale distribution of remaining items to domestic and oversea charities, and book resellers brought us up to 100% reuse and recycling!

Most of the revenue will be added to the sum already invested toward a major gift when the sod is turned for a new main library building. The addition of this year's revenue will bring the total of the investment to significantly more than $415,000.

We are indebted to Bob Ireland for his generosity in making the sale site available to us rent-free.

Many volunteers gave months of work and local businesses helped in many ways. But most of the thanks go to the record-breaking number of book lovers (8,101) who came out to shop and have fun. It was three wonderful days.

Get ready; we'll be back next year!
