John Williams enters Liberal candidate race

A local United Church minister has announced that he will become a candidate to replace retiring Liberal MP Brenda Chamberlain in the next federal election.

Reverend John (Jake) Williams has expressed his interest to the local Liberal association. Born and raised in Kirkland Lake, Williams states that he comes from a family of politicians. He first came to Guelph in 1970 and worked as a reporter for the Guelph Mercury.

Williams' subsequent travels took him to China at the end of the Cultural Revolution and to El Salvador at the end of its the long civil war. Williams then studied Administration at Princeton and earned a bachelor's degree in Chinese Studies and a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Toronto.

Williams states that he is interested in environmentalism,sustainable economics, agriculture and education. He was a supporter of Stéphane Dion in the recent Liberal leadership campaign. Williams appears on Cable 23's On The Line television program.
